EARLY LIFE

Scarlett Johansson is named as one of the sexiest American actresses. She was born in New York City, on the 22nd of November, 1984, to architect, Karsten Johansson and Melanie Sloan. Most of her family is in the film industry. Her grandfather, Ejner Johansson, was a screenwriter and director; her mother was a director, her sister is an actress and her twin brother played in the film Manny & Lo. Scarlett is the youngest child and she also has another brother, Adrian, and a half-brother, Christian. Johansson and her brothers went to study at P.S. 41 in Greenwich Village. In 2002, she attended training in theatre from Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, and Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

ACTING CAREER

Johansson’s first cinema appearances were in a movie called North in 1994, and small roles in Just Cause (1995) and If Lucy Fell (1996). In the same year, she supported Manny & Lo, directed by Lisa Krueger, and was selected for an Independent Spirit Award The Best Actress Nomination with Aleksa Palladino and Mary Kay Place for Best Leads Female. In 1998, Robert Redford asked her to join in his movie The Horse Whisperer to play as Kristin Scott Thomas’s daughter who loses her friend and one of her legs in a horrific accident. She was praised for that role and was considered an upcoming rising star in the film industry. Still in her teenage years, Johansson tried a new challenge by playing the heroine role in Terry Zwigoff’s movie Ghost World, a story about two teens’ adventures after graduating from high school adapted from a comic book. She later appeared in American Rhapsody as a young refugee running away to the USA when communists took over Hungary in 1950. After starring in the movie about a giant spider Eight Legged Freaks, Johansson gained awareness for her kicking acting from Hollywood elite. She was then offered a role in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation and received lots of compliments and a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globes. Her other important appearances were in The Girl with a Pearl Earring in 2003 and in The Perfect Score also in that same year.

Johansson’s star started to shine very brightly after the movies In Good Company (2004) and A Love Song for Bobby Long. These films also gave her status as one of the Hollywood stars who get big dollars for their roles. Her next movie, The Island, obtained criticism from audiences, but she still raised her fame when performing Match Point by Woody Allen. Her next collaboration with Allen in supernatural comedy, Scoop, in 2006 was met with successful praise. Still in the same year, Johansson took a part in a movie adaptation by Robert De Palma, The Black Dahlia and had another success acting as a nanny, also in an adaptation, The Nanny’s Diaries with Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti. She was also a star on the Broadway stage playing two plays, Sophistry and A View from the Bridge.

Johansson is also known as brands’ image of different fashion lines such as Mango, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, and Miss Selfridges. She also appeared in L’Oreal advertising campaign, and is famous as sex symbol. She was captured naked on Vanity Fair’s cover in 2006 with Keira Knightley and Tom Ford, and was named as sexiest woman among mens’ magazines. Johansson’s other talent is singing and she made her first appearance by singing Summertime for Unexpected Dreams Song From The Stars. In 2008, Johansson released an album produced by Dave Sitek titled Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up in 2009, a collaboration with Pete Yorn, a singer and songwriter. She also made duet performance with Justin Timberlake and featured in soundtrack of He’s Just Not That Into You, Wretches and Jabbers, and in an album of Steel Train, Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, singing a song called Bullet.

PERSONAL LIFE

There were many men credited as Johansson’s dates before she got married to Canadian Actor, Ryan Reynold in 2008. She was thought to date Benicio del Toro, Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and Josh Hartnett. Johansson is one of actress who has faith in making a monogamous relationship. The couple was separated in 2010 in Los Angeles. A year later Johansson was reported to be seen with actor Sean Penn.
