Course outline 1. Overview of the Role of the Producer – from initial concept, through production to distribution and marketing of the finished film. Relationship to Financiers, Director, Other Executive/Co-Producers.
2. Choosing a script, choosing a Director, development, initial budgeting.
3. Sources of finance, co-production options, Relevant Treaty and DCMS guidelines.
4. Casting, packaging, pre-sales, pay/play deals.
5. Pre-Production, production - what does the Producer do? Post production – which route to take? Digital or film?
6. Insurance, Legals and Completion Bonds. Contracts.
7. Marketing and Distribution of the completed film.
8. Festivals/Film markets.

| This course covers all the essential elements you’ll need to know in order to give you a real grounding in the role of the Producer and provide you with the confidence and inspiration to get your film produced. |
| Involving lectures and hands-on exercises, students will learn the realities of getting a feature film into production – initial script analysis, budgeting and sourcing finance, development, casting, contracts, legals, co-production options, tax funds/EIS, sales, distribution, insurance, completion bonds.

| Suitable for those new to production as well as those with some experience, the course will provide students with a real hands-on sense of what a Producer does and what he has to go through in order to get the cameras rolling. Students will also leave with a valuable list of contacts that they can put to use for their own projects. |

| The Tutor: Andi Reiss is the director of the critically acclaimed refugee feature docu-drama "Cargo" (which he also produced), and the short films "Sleeper" and "Little Angels" amongst others. He is the director/producer of the documentaries " Special Delivery", "Empty Vessels" and "Killer Cure" (which he also produced). He has worked in many different mediums, and on a variety of formats from 35mm to HDV, and is employed as a cinematographer, editor and cartoonist as well as a writer,director and producer.
